From Classroom Learning to Real World Tech with Michael Luyun

For Michael Aaron T. Luyun, technology has always started with curiosity. Long before pursuing BS Information Technology at De La Salle University, he was already tinkering with whatever gadgets he could find at home, from his brother’s calculator to the family printer and an old PC.

Now a third-year IT student, Michael describes himself as curious, efficient, and logical. His interest in thought-engaging content reflects the same mindset he brings into tech: he enjoys figuring things out.

Get to know Michael further through his LinkedIn profile and Github.

Through the SBLabs Internship Program, Springboard gives students the opportunity to work on real-world technology projects, explore emerging tools, and build solutions that can address actual business and industry needs. And that kind of environment is exactly where Michael’s curiosity thrives.

Learn more about the SBLabs Internship Program and how Springboard helps young builders gain real-world tech experience.

Michael’s journey into technology formally began in Grade 8, when he started learning Python. Since then, his studies at DLSU have exposed him to a wide range of languages, tools, and platforms. While he did not initially imagine himself building a career in tech, seeing the world shift toward AI and digital systems helped him realize how important the field would become.

One of the biggest influences on his career direction was his uncle, who introduced him to cybersecurity. For Michael, the idea that “no system is perfect” sparked a deeper interest in vulnerabilities, systems, and protection.

Among the projects he is most proud of is his current work involving computer vision for Judo. The project explores how technology can contribute to combat sports and injury prevention, a field he had not worked on before.

Explore how Springboard creates opportunities for students and early-career talents to contribute to real projects.

At Springboard, Michael has found an environment that gives him room to apply his skills in real-world settings. He is currently developing an HR System, a full-stack, web-based platform built to streamline and digitize core human resource operations for Springboard Philippines. The project aims to replace manual HR processes while helping reduce workload and errors across daily operations.

The system covers key modules such as employee record management, attendance and clock-in/clock-out tracking, leave request workflows, schedule template assignments, and payroll. The platform is designed to give the HR team a reliable, role-based system for managing workforce data more efficiently and accurately.

Have workflows that still rely on manual processes? Partner with Springboard to build custom solutions

Through his internship, Michael has already started developing one of the most important skills in tech: adaptability. Learning Springboard’s current tech stack and aligning his project with the company’s workflow has challenged him to move quickly in a fast-paced environment. For him, the experience has been “meaningful” because it gives him first-hand exposure to how tech is built, discussed, and improved in the workplace.

As Michael continues his internship journey at Springboard, he represents the kind of young talent the company hopes to support: curious, adaptable, and eager to build solutions that matter.

He believes in focusing only on what he can control and turning setbacks into energy to climb back up.

His advice for students interested in tech is simple but timely: do not be discouraged by the rise of AI. Instead, treat it as a reason to adapt further.
